Fátima — detail from the Natural Time Warp Wheel

Fátima is the site of the 1917 Marian apparitions reported by three shepherd children, now one of the most visited pilgrimage sites in the Catholic world. It is retained as a point control precisely because its coordinates are unusually well fixed by the basilica itself.

Three children saw something in a field, and nothing about the moment required anyone else to believe it before it was real to them. What makes this a point control rather than a broad field has nothing to do with the vision's scale and everything to do with the basilica later built to mark exactly where it happened — a single fixed spot, because a great many more people eventually needed somewhere to stand.

Registration & Source The declared WGS84 research control is 39.631128°N, 8.673186°W. Spatial class: POINT CONTROL. The coordinate lies 1.391′ from its nearest 6′ eastward longitude line and 1.614′ from its nearest 7.5′ diagnostic latitude line. Full working: Book II, Chapter 16.

This Area is one of the Twelve registered in Book II, The Natural Time Warp Areas. See The Natural Time Warp Wheel for the full identification table.
