Ring 3 of Eleven · The Natural Time Warp Wheel
Sand that preserves rather than erases.
The Taklamakan is one of the largest sand deserts on Earth, ringed by the Kunlun, Tian Shan and Pamir ranges and historically the site of mummified remains and lost cities uncovered from beneath its dunes. Key 105's own Pyramid/Ur/Basin language is applied directly to this Area.
Sand is usually described as what erases things. In the Taklamakan it has done the opposite: the same dunes that closed over cities and travellers for centuries kept what they covered, dry and legible, until someone was finally in a position to find it again — a seed of understanding that can sit quietly for years before the moment arrives to dig it back up whole.
This Area is one of the Twelve registered in Book II, The Natural Time Warp Areas. See The Natural Time Warp Wheel for the full identification table.
