The Covenant of Reception

Prelude

This Covenant is offered as a complete representation of the Whole of Creational Relationships — not a supplement to what has already been written, nor a rival to it, but the naming of a relationship no existing instrument was written to name.

Six bodies of law and declaration stand behind this work, and are named here plainly rather than left unspoken: the Universal Declaration of Human Rights of 1948, the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights and the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights that carried it into binding law in 1966, the Convention on the Rights of the Child of 1989, the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities of 2006, and the Earth Charter of 2000. Each was a genuine labour of conscience, drafted by those reaching, within the consciousness available to their own time, toward dignity, protection and right relation. Each still stands, and nothing here asks that any of them be set aside.

But each was drafted, and each was executed into human law, by minds and councils addressing humanity's relationship to itself — to its own children, its own citizens, its own diversity of body and belief — or, in the Earth Charter's case, reaching one step further, toward humanity's relationship to the community of life it shares the planet with. Not one of them, at the moment of its drafting, was written to name a relationship with Earth herself as a living Presence entitled to welcome, and, rightfully so, beyond her, with the Solar System, the Universe, and the greater Cosmos she is held within; with the Elemental Kingdoms who build and hold the forms of the physical world; with the Devas who serve that building; with the Angelic Host; or with the Elohim, Mighty and Secret, whose Creative Work stands prior to and beneath every form these instruments were written to protect. This is not a failure laid at any drafter's feet. It could not have been otherwise: no council convened to write law for the relations of nations could, at the same time, convene the relations of worlds.

This Covenant does not correct these instruments. Its Function is to travel in the two directions none of them could yet travel: outward, from humanity's relationship to itself, into the whole company of relationship that Creation actually is — Earth, Solar System, Universe, and the greater Cosmos beyond; and inward, into the Human Biology itself, and its own living connection to the Greater Field of Consciousness and to Source, which no Charter drafted for law was ever written to ask after. Its Purpose is to receive what they protected, and to welcome, in both directions, what they had no way to name. In this, the Covenant reaches toward a vision of far more than the earlier Charters, bound to the consciousness of their own time, could ever have given credence to.

What follows, then, is not a declaration standing beside these six, but a Function and Purpose standing after them — beginning, before a single Posit is spoken for humanity, with Earth herself.
