Brilliant double-terminated quartz crystal, formed in an ancient seafloor — a sibling story to Arkansas's own.
Farmland and stream sediment in the Mohawk Valley hold naturally faceted, double-terminated quartz crystals, eighteen faces each, formed over 500 million years ago when this valley lay beneath a shallow sea. Unlike nearly every other site in this field, this one remains genuinely, physically accessible: public mines still let visitors dig their own crystals from the ground today.
There is a direct mineralogical resonance worth naming plainly: Arkansas's own quartz strata is itself seafloor-derived, formed beneath an ancient sea just as Herkimer's crystal cavities were. Source and Satellite share, quite literally, the same kind of origin story, corroborated here by two independent lines of source testimony.
From the Sun Disc's ground in Arkansas, this Satellite sits to the northeast, in the Mohawk Valley of upstate New York.
